There are several email clients, such as Outlook, thunderbird, apple mail, etc which allows you to read Gmail and emails from other email servers. Learn how to setup gmail email In email client easily here.
Of course, you will need to provide the correct settings in order for these email programs to access your email accounts.
As mentioned in another post, different email protocols, there are different email protocols to choose from. For Gmail, you have the choice to choose to connect using either IMAP or POP.
Gmail Email Settings
Account name: You may use your own name or email address
Incoming (mail) server: pop.gmail.com or imap.gmail.com (depending on your choice if its IMAP or POP)
Username: your full gmail email address.
Password: Your email password (if you have 2 step verification, use the app password that is generated) If you need help, click here to understand how to create app password (in another article)
Port Number (incoming): 995 if you are using POP settings, 993 if you are using IMAP
Security: Use SSL
Outgoing (Mail) Server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing Authenication: Yes, Use incoming server settings
Port Number (outgoing): 465 / 587. Use the 587 if 465 doesnt work
Security: SSL / TLS / Auto

Setup Gmail Account in Outlook
Using Outlook as an example, here is the guide if you require it to setup gmail account in outlook.
- this page should pop up, select account settings > account settings
- Select “New” and proceed til the window “Internet Email Settings” below appears
- Key in the information as stated above. Depending on your preference of IMAP or POP3, key in the correct stated above in green. Click on “More setting” to continue the setup

outlook outgoing server authentication - The above window will appear, click on the “outgoing server” tab and tick the box to enable outgoing authentication.
- Click on the “Advanced” Tab. If you select IMAP earlier on, the image will differ slightly. Key in accordingly to the required port

Others: you may encounter an error where it refuses to connect despite you keying in the correct credential. This probably is likely cause by a Gmail security setting, meant to protect you gmail email account. Read a guide to allow less secure app access
To verify, if you are logging in Gmail.com, you might receive a criticial alert mentioning that a login is rejected or you could have an email “less secure app” notification in your gmail inbox which mentioned that it has blocked a less secure app sign in.
