Weird Issue Some Settings are Managed by Your Organization Windows 10

While trying to change some system settings, did you have the above error message “some settings are managed by an administrator” or “some settings are managed by your organization” ? Despite the fact that you are the only administrator of this PC and that this computer is personally unboxed by you?

If i am a non IT saavy person, i will have freaked out and be worried about who has been managing my computer all these why. Virus? Hacker? These are the natural links that comes to mind.

However, most of the time, these settings might have been controlled by a third party software (which is installed by us), such as our anti malware settings or optimization software.

And disabling the profile or uninstallation of these software, solved the issue.

Such Windows 10 notifications are generally harmless and can be treated as an error message. If you are still annoyed by the above message. Here are some steps you can try to remove the message.

1) Perform windows update

I encountered the above message even when i perform a clean installation of windows. Getting the system updated removed those error messages.

2) Resolve by Editing Group Policy Editor

If you are using Win 10 Pro, check your group policy.

  1. Click on the start button, and type in “Gpedit.msc“, right click on it and “Run as administrator
  2. Head over to “Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds”
  3. Locate the settings to “Allow Telemetry” ,
  4. Select “Enable” and change the settings from “1 – Basic” to “3 – Full“. Click on “Apply” and “OK
  5. Restart the PC.
  6. Repeat step 1 to step 3 again. However, this time, select “Not Configured” and problem should be resolved.

3) Edit Privacy Settings

  1. Open Windows settings
  2. Head over to Privacy,
  3. Select “Diagnostics & Feedback
  4. and set it to “Full“.
  5. Restart the PC, restart the step 1-4, however, this step set it to “Basic

4) Check your program list to temporary remove any third party software which might interfere.

This step is basically based on your own judgement as it is difficult to name specific programs. And programs changes their features all the time. Some example will be system optimizer program or programs which assist you to edit your privacy and to tweak system settings.

Personally i prefer to use the classic control panel interface as it only shows the programs which has been installed by me. The new “Apps and features” includes some system apps which cannot be uninstalled manually.

If you are unsure, skip this method!

  1. Right click on the start button, and select “Apps and features
  2. Another window should open up, and select “Programs and Features” on the right column (image below)
  3. The classic control panel should open up (image below)
  4. windows 10 classic program and feature control panel

  5. As written as above, use your own judgement to look for non essential programs which might tweak with system settings.
  6. If you are unsure, skip this method!
  7. Remove them and check if the notification message disappears.
