If its the first time you are using or it has been quite a while since you switch and use the iOS ecosystem, this guide can be consider as a refresher course. One of the first thing that we generally do when we get a new device, will be to add in our preferred apps and of course, email accounts for either work or personal purpose. This will be a pretty short guide on how to add email to iphone or ipad using either the automated setup or manual setup.

How to Add Email to IPhone

  1. Locate the “Mail” App icon on your screen.
  2. Since this is the first time you are adding an email account to your iphone, the below image”Welcome to Mail” will appear.
  3. The common email providers, Apple, Gmail, Gsuite, Hotmail, Outlook, Office 365 , Yahoo, Aol are listed here. If you know what email provider you are having, you can proceed to click on the respective icons. Else check with your service provider or IT department for more information before proceeding.

Adding Email Account to iphone using the Manual (Others) Method

However, things are slightly technical if you are setting up the manual way by using the “Others” option. Once “others” is clicked, a page appears, asking which type of account you wish to setup.

Since this page is all about setting up new email accounts on iphone, select “Add Mail Account

The “New Account” windows will appear. (image above)

Key in the details. For Description, you may use it to reference this particular email account. For instance, if you have multiple work email to be added, you can call this “Work – Personal” Or “Work – Group Email”

Click on “Next” once the 4 rows, in the image above, are filled in.

Another window will then appear. Other than “Name” and “Description“, the rest of the information will need to be accurate in order for you to setup your new email account in iphone successfully.

Any details which is incorrect here might cause sending or receiving error.

If you are unsure, check with your IT department or email service provider for more information to ensure that you are able to connect your email account to your iphone / ipad.

Once successfully setup, you will be able to reach your inbox and soon it will be populated by emails (image above, After successful setup)
